S/V "Long Distance"

"Long Distance"

The Virgin Islands are known worldwide for their crystal clear waters, perfect sailing winds, and natural harbors. Coral Bay, on beautiful St. John, is the largest natural harbor in the Caribbean and the home of "Long Distance".

Capt. Rick Sets Sail

"Long Distance", a 40' Pearson sloop is known for its ability to sail in very light winds. So, join us as we set sail for the most memorable day of your St. John vacation! Forward Deck

Shaded Cockpit Area The cockpit area is large and comfortable. A full "bimini" cover provides ample shade from the bright midday sun. There is also plenty of area for sitting and lounging on the forward deck. Lounging in the Sun on the Forward Deck

"Long Distance" provides full-day and half-day charters for island guests. Full-day charters include 1-2 snorkel stops, a lunch of deli-style sandwiches, and refreshments of water, soft drinks, beer, and our delicious rum punch. Half-day charters include 1 snorkel stop, a light snack, and refreshments of water, soft drinks, beer and rum punch.

Exclusive sails and special charters into British Virgin Island waters are also available Monday through Saturday. These charters include a sail to Tortola (the largest of the British Virgin Islands) where you will clear customs, then you have a choice to either do two snorkel stops, one to "The Indians", have lunch on board and then to "The Caves" or "The Bight" off Norman Island.  Or if you prefer to just do one snorkel stop you can choose one of the above and then the Captain and Crew will take you on the short sail to the infamous "Willy T", a floating "pirate ship", for a casual, fun afternoon and lunch.

The Reef at Flanigan Island Snorkeling at Elk Bay

As a benefit of sailing out of Coral Bay, "Long Distance" offers snorkeling stops to unspoiled locations off the East End of St. John. The snorkeling stops chosen by the crew are on remote coral reefs that are healthy, vibrant, and abound with colorful fish and interesting sea life.  While the vessel has snorkel gear on board, guests are encouraged to bring their own gear to insure proper fit and maximum enjoyment of their snorkeling experience.

Capt. Rick Gallup First Mate Robin Gallup

The owners, and your hosts aboard "Long Distance", Rick and Robin Gallup, have been sailing the waters of the Virgin Islands since 1995. Rick is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain and Robin is a registered nurse. Originally from Lake Sunapee, New Hampshire and, more recently from Sugarloaf, Maine, St. John has captured their love of the mountains and the sea. They look forward to sharing the beauty of the islands and abundant marine life with you.
